The Church – The Hope of the World
by Dan O’Deens
The Church is the hope of the world when it is working right! The Church is a body, the head of that body is Jesus. The mission of Jesus is the Church. The Church is the body of Christ. One body, not many. One head, not many. To have more than one body for the one head, is to make the Church a ‘freak.’
COVID-19 has allowed us to take a look deep within to determine our health. I believe churches are meant for praise and to bring glory to the Most High God. But so are daily walks through a forest or by a beach or climbing a mountain, café’s with a friend enjoying a great cup of java, a workout at the gym, conversations with friends and tangibly caring for the needs around the world.
A building and meeting place cannot confine our faith. Christianity is far more than a religion. The Church was never intended to be reduced to a building or a program. We will never change our world by just ‘going’ to church, we must step into this opportunity to ‘be’ the Church. Every ordinary member of the Church on mission is God’s ‘big idea.’
As Christ followers, we are driven by passion and purpose and we are sustained by grace and grit. We work hard in the flesh and we rely harder on the Spirit.
God’s purpose in all this was to use the Church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 3:20
