If we are going to help people outside of the church walls get to know God and discover Him.  If we are going to help people that are living without hope, find hope, the kind that only God can give.   If we are going to be about God’s mission which is to show people His love and to understand their value to their creator and Savior, then we must communicate God’s truth in two ways: To fulfill God’s purpose requires communicating God’s truth with doctrinal integrity and cultural relevance.

Romans 1:16  (NIV), Paul says, I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation of everyone who believes.

I am not ashamed of the truth that God is real, that every single person that was created by God was created to need him.  I am not ashamed of the truth that although all human beings are guilty and have pushed God out of their lives, walked away from Him and have rebelled against his ways, that God still loved them so much, that He would send His Son, to take on the form of man and to die on a cross and then raise Him from the dead. That is the power of God!  It is the key ingredient to find the hope that we are looking for, the fix that we need.  The forgiveness that we so desperately desire.  But Paul also wrote these words,

1 Corinthians 9:19,20 (NIV)   Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.  To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.

Why?  To help as many as possible accept the gospel, so they could have the power of the gospel.

1 Corinthians 9:21,22  (NIV)  To those not having the law I became like one not having the law, so as to win those not having the law.  To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.  I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

Paul said, I became relevant so that some could come to Christ.  And I will go to any means to do so.  God is saying that IF we care so much about those who do not yet know Him, then we have to communicate his truth in ways in which the world will understand.  We have to proclaim the Truth, for it is the Truth that will set them free.

We have to do it with absolute integrity, we cannot water it down, we cannot add to it or subtract from it.  We cannot change it to our liking.  We must communicate God’s truth with Doctrinal Integrity, but we must communicate it with Cultural Relevance.  In the language of the culture in a way that people can understand it.  So they can make the decision to accept the message or reject it, which is their choice.
