John 5 is so rich and one might overlook this simple story of a simple miracle of GIANT proportion. Jesus shows up and asks a lame man if he wants to get well. The lame man defers to what ‘he’ understands as the operations procedure for getting well. In order to get well someone must take you to the pool of Siloam. Jesus just lets him ramble on. When he is all done, Jesus simply says, “Get up and walk.”

I love that. Why are we so bent on trying to pretend we have God figured out? Why are we so arrogant to believe that we are capable of understanding all there is to know about God? Why do we consistently put God in a box? When we cease to allow God to be God, we lose! We remain the same.

So what’s been troubling you? What’s keeping you down? Get out of your rut, shut up, and listen to Jesus. He says, Get up and walk! I’m walking again!

John 5:6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” 7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” 8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
