John 13 is about getting clean! Hmmmnnn? What’s a bath? I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a bath. Really! I have had one, a long time ago! Today is the day for showers! I am a shower freak, if I even feel a little dirty, it’s a direct path to the shower. I love the way it makes me feel. Freshly clean, I am prepared to be in the presence of royalty, or to just sit and relax with my peeps. No reservations! All is good!
On the night of Passover, Jesus gets up and begins to wash His disciples feet….and then this great verse!
John 13:10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”
This is the doctrinal teaching of Sanctification. It is Jesus’ way of getting very practical about how we receive spiritual cleansing. We don’t need a ‘bath’ again. He refers to Salvation. We have already done that and you are eternally secure. You have been washed by the blood of the Lamb and your sins have been forgiven once and for all. Very cool! BUT…You journey through life and on its path you get dirty. You stumble, you sin! Although all your sins were forgiven once and for all and at the point of Salvation you became a child of God and nothing is going to affect your ‘sonship’, Jesus knows that your ‘daily’ sin affects your relationship with Him and others.
So, when you get dirty, hop in the shower of spiritual cleansing. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness. I have nothing to hide. I am clean. I am prepared today to stand in the presence of royalty and to face my world. I feel good, I smell good! All because of the Spiritual Cleansing Jesus offers by washing my feet! Dirty Feet? Get ’em Cleaned!
