A Total Eclipse of the Heart

Dan O’Deens – 4.8.2024

Today we get to experience a once in a lifetime phenomena.   A total eclipse.  An eclipse happens when there is an obscuring of the light from one celestial body as another body passes between it and the observer or between it and its source of illumination.

In 1983 I was in my junior year of college and Bonnie Tyler released a song she titled,  “A Total Eclipse of the Heart.”  Her words are raw and they are real.  Life is hard.  God created us with emotion.  She said, “Once upon a time I was falling in love, now I’m only falling apart.   There’s nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart.   Once upon a time there was light in my life, but now there’s only love in the dark.   Nothing I can say…A Total Eclipse of the Heart.   Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time, I don’t know what to do and I’m always in the dark.  We’re living in a powder keg and giving off sparks.  I really need you tonight…forever’s gonna start tonight.

People are searching for Love and for Hope.

Jesus is the light of the world.  And then, Jesus in his teaching turns that truth and says to all of his followers…’YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD’ …let your light so shine before men.  Our mission is to make Jesus brighter.   His light is real and it is bright, yet we go through seasons where Satan and evil come between Jesus and us.   There seems to be a total eclipse.  Where is God in the pain?

I love Psalm 30:5, ‘weeping may last for the night, but hold on my child, joy comes in the morning.’

To whom much is given…much is required.   Let’s be on mission together.  Let’s be the Light of the World to a people who have lost their hope.  Let’s demonstrate God’s love!
