A CALL TO PRAYER
by Dan O’Deens
“I know that the Lord is always on the side of the right; but it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation may be on the Lord’s side.” – Abraham Lincoln
A Prayer for the Ephesians and for the United States of America
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
This is not a strategy or campaign. This is not a political platform to voice our opinions. This is a call for PRAYER. We will pray at 11:11 together. We will pray more than that…but together we will pray at 11:11. We will pray for:
God’s House – Light exposes the darkness. The problem is not that darkness is dark. The problem is that the light of the world is hiding under a bushel. Let the Church rise!
The White House – Romans 13 is clear. We must honor our nation and submit to authority unless there is biblical reason, but then we must be willing to be thrown into a fiery furnace for taking a stance. Let’s pray for our President and leadership!
Justice and Redemption – The fall of man and the ‘total’ depravity of man is having its way in the hearts of men. From the days of Adam, Noah and the Judges to our current culture every man desires to do that which is right in his own eyes. God’s Redemptive plan is imminent. We must engage and turn desecrated space into sacred space!
Humility and Repentance – 2 Chronicles 7:14. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Enough said!
Families – The family is the fabric of God’s plan. Healthy families matter. Values are caught not taught. Our greatest contribution to the Kingdom of God may not be something we ‘do’ but the next generation we raise. Let our personal and universal tribe be strong!
Love in Diversity – He who loves first wins. God is not color blind. He made each of us unique and in His image. There is a difference between agreement and love. We can love those who are ‘not’ like us. For God so loved the world. The world is not looking for a debate, they are looking for those who are willing to demonstrate the unconditional love of Jesus. Love God and love people. In that order!
Crisis and Catastrophe – It rains on the good and the evil. Bad things do happen in the world, like war, natural disasters, disease…but out of these unfortunate circumstances the church rises along with the common grace of humanity and ordinary people accomplish the extraordinary. The sacrifice and commitment is worth it!
